Level I "The Foundations"
Map, Compass and GPS
“What do those numbers mean anyway?’ - the relationship between the map, the compass and the GPS unit. The continuum of GPS familiarity flows from basic to more complex, from knowledge/content through to application. This is an experiential, “hands-on” opportunity with the GPS unit. The resource is the manual and DVD ‘What do those numbers mean anyway.’
Level II "Extending Your GPS Experience..."
Mapping Software, Creating a Spatial File
Using a mapping software, creating applicable digital files with spatial data and imagery. This extends the “capture” of data in the field and bringing it all together in a mapping environment. The resource includes a CD of content in Power Point format.
Level III "Getting to First Base with G.I.S."
Points, Lines, Polygons, Creating a Map and Data Queries
“Everyone and everything” will become part of a Geographic Information System (GIS). This allows the participant to bring GPS data into the GIS environment. Also, basic queries are covered related to the spatial layers of data. This is a foundations perspective for those considering embracing GIS from a “users” or management perspective. The resource includes Power Point format and the utilization of the ESRI – ArcGIS software (site licence).
