Silently with the Forest

"A silent retreat sampler" (postponed to 2025 - new dates below)

Friday May 2nd to Sunday May 4th, 2025

Celebrate World Labyrinth Day on Saturday May 3rd, 2025

Enjoy a weekend to “disconnect to reconnect” – with yourself and with nature.  Surround yourself with the positive energy of the natural environment while you discover what is important to you.  This weekend is for you to re-energize and re-fuel your body, mind and soul!  During this sampler silent retreat, you will have the opportunity to meet yourself where you are at and challenge yourself to explore the silence within you and around you.  We encourage you to leave your technology behind (or turned off) while you experience 12+hours of silence.  You can choose from a variety of invitations throughout the day to help guide you on your own personal journey, or spend the day in silence as you wish (although we highly encourage you to embrace the day completely or as much outdoors as possible).

What is meant by a “Silent Sampler” retreat?

We realize that a full silent retreat (whether it be for extended days or involving  meditation) might be a little too overwhelming for many, but most if not all of us can benefit from disconnecting (from technology and pressures of home/work) in order to reconnect to our mind, body and spirit.  Time taken for self is an important step to encourage rest, rejuvenation and perhaps even some self-discovery and awareness.

This is an opportunity to try some silence for a realively short period of time, where opportunities to exist to engage in conversation (at designated times) as well as some guided sessions at the beginning and end of the retreat (ie. Yoga and Forest Bathing).

We can all benefit from some intentional “me time”…and that is just what this weekend is about!

What is Forest Therapy you ask?

Forest Therapy (as commonly referred to in North America), is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku (‘Forest Bathing’) developed in the 1980’s.  Certified Forest Therapy Guide, Laura Kielpinski will facilitate a safe and gentle experience in nature, providing “invitations” for sensory opening activities. There will be opportunities to gather and share together throughout the walk.  These walks are not intended to be nature interpretive or fitness focused in structure, but rather an opportunity to slow down and remember our connections and relationships with the natural world around us. Participants can expect the walk to take approximately 2 hours including time for “tea with the trees”.  Laura looks forward to partnering with the forest and sharing this practice with you!

Studies and research have demonstrated that forest therapy walks may have a wide array of health benefits to an individuals’ emotional and physical well-being including; reduced stress levels, changes in blood pressure and/or heart rate, improved mood and cognition. Other side effects during the walk can also include increased relaxation, personal awareness, insights and reflections, as well as laughter, giggles and playfulness.

Appropriate clothing (layering for warmth) and footwear is important to be comfortable outside in all types of weather.  Suggested items to bring with you may include; Raincoat and/or warm coat, layering of clothes to accommodate getting warm or cold, sit-upon/small blanket for sitting on the ground, water bottle and/or personal snacks.

Morning Movement & Meditation

Reconnect to your body and mind through an intuitive flow of light movement, breathwork, and Body Scan.

The body scan is one of the most effective ways to begin a mindfulness meditation practice. The purpose is to tune in to your body—to reconnect to your physical self—and notice any sensations you’re feeling without judgement.
