2027 CANCELLATION POLICY
We will be strictly adhering to our cancellation policy. We recommend exploring trip cancellation/interruption insurance (ex. Manulife). You should ensure that it covers your entire course fee. Most trip cancellation/interruption insurance will cover cancellation expenses in the event of illness, injury, family emergency etc. Please be aware that many insurance companies will not cover your expenses in the event of early departure for a participant’s behaviour or lack of motivation. Some restrictions to the insurance that you purchase may apply, check terms and conditions with your insurance provider.
Cancellation by Families: Refunds for cancellations initiated by families will follow the schedule below:
Before February 1, 2027: Refund of all payments minus a $200 administration fee (non-transferable).
February 1st – March 31, 2027: Refund of all payments minus $900 ($200 administration fee + $700 course fee). All fees are non-transferable.
April 1 – May 31, 2027: Refund of all payments minus $2400 ($200 administration fee + $2,200 course fee). All fees are non-transferable.
After June 1, 2027: No refunds. All fees are non-transferable and non-refundable
Note: Credit card processing fees (1% of the transaction amount) are non-refundable.
Cancellation by the Canadian Ecology Centre (Force Majeure / Forced Closure): If a course is cancelled due to circumstances beyond the Centre’s control—such as natural disasters, severe weather, government-mandated closures, or other Force Majeure events—the following will apply:
Initial Refund: 50% of all course fees paid (minus the $200 non-refundable administration fee and any credit card fees) will be refunded.
Remaining Balance: The remaining 50% is non-refundable, but may be:
Transferred as a credit for future programs or services (valid for up to 2 years), or
Donated to the Canadian Ecology Centre Education Foundation, in which case a charitable tax receipt will be issued.
During a Course Closure: If a session is already in progress, no refunds will be provided. When possible, remaining course content may be completed through experiential remote learning.
Student Withdrawals During a Course: No refunds will be issued if a student is sent home or voluntarily withdraws once a course has begun.
Transfers from previous years: Some families may have a portion of their course fees transferred from a previous year. These transferred amounts remain non-refundable and are only eligible to be used as a credit for up to two years from the original cancellation date.
Any unused transfer amounts not used by the two year mark, will be applied as a donation to our Education Foundation and a charitable tax receipt will be issued for that year.
If a family cancels a 2027 registration that includes a transferred balance from a previous year:
Any new payments made for 2027 will be treated according to the 2027 cancellation policy and timelines.
Any transferred balance from a previous year will not be refunded under the 2027 policy and will continue to follow the original cancellation terms and expiry date.
Transferred credits cannot be “converted” into a refund by registering and then cancelling under a later year’s policy.
Financial Transparency: The Canadian Ecology Centre is a non-profit organization and does not have sufficient operational reserves to provide full refunds in the event of an emergency shutdown. Refunds and transfers will be processed as soon as operationally and financially feasible, and families will be kept informed of timelines and limitations.
It is recommended to explore trip cancellation/interruption insurance through your own insurance provider (ex. Manulife)
