June 23 (2026) - CEC/NNDSB Summer School Program - Final Preparation Details

Welcome to the CEC and NNDSB Summer School Program!

We are looking forward to meeting everyone soon and helping you prepare for arrival day on SUNDAY June 28 (for Session #1) or SUNDAY July 12 (for Session #2).

The following information and steps below are meant to help ensure a smooth arrival for your credit course program.

Included in this email is the following information:

  • TEAMS Pre-Recorded Link information (mandatory pre-course information session if you did not attend live)
  • Reviewing Important Final Documents
  • Arrival Details

1. TEAMS CALL (Recording)

You can access the recording of the meeting last week by going to the following link.

 2. IMPORTANT FINAL ARRIVAL DOCUMENTS (All on the secondary registration page – NO ATTACHMENTS) – this was reviewed during the TEAMS call.

  • NNDSB Liability & Waiver Form
  • Medication Forms – These will all be collected in-person during check-in – please do not email them to us.
    • Please record any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) that you are bringing to the credit course.  All medications and forms should be stored in a ziplock bag with your child’s name and grade on the outside.  This will be handed in during the check-in process. All medications (including over-the-counter medications and prescription) will be stored for safety at all times.
    • Please use the PRESCRIPTION FORM for EACH medication you are bringing (1 form for each different medication)
    • Please use the OVER-THE-COUNTERFORM to record ALL medications you are bringing in one form (ie. advil, tylenol, gravol)

 3.  ARRIVAL DAY and DIRECTIONS

Directions to the Canadian Ecology Centre (CEC):

The CEC is located within Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park, along Hwy 17 between the town of North Bay and Mattawa.  Please see our website for directions to the Canadian Ecology Centre (www.canadianecology.ca).   If you are using a GPS navigation program, please keep in mind that we are located in “Calvin Twp” and it is better to use “Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park” as your destination.  You will see signs for the Provincial Park on the Hwy (but there are no CEC signs on the highway).

Please be patient as you arrive within the Park (as Park Camping Guests may also be arriving/departing as well).  The Canadian Ecology Centre is located approximately 2.5 km drive in from the Hwy.  Please observe and follow the speed limits posted in the park.

Please note:  If you plan to enjoy the park amenities (ie. beaches, etc) after dropping your child off, you will need to stop and purchase a Provincial Park Day Pass.

CONSTRUCTION/POST STORM REPAIR NOTE:  The Provincial Park is currently replacing signage that was damaged in last June’s downburst storm.  If permanent signs are not installed, the CEC will have portable signage along the road to help guide your way.

 You’ve arrived…Now what?

Note your student’s class’s scheduled arrival time by clicking on the “arrival/departure” tab on secondary registration website page.  Please try to arrive during these scheduled times (given traffic/travel uncertainties) in order to space the registration process out and reduce parking congestion.

Step 1  On-Site Registration and Forms/Equipment Drop-off

**BOTH student/guardians should go in for check-in with the following items ready to go (if you can have everything ready ahead of time, registration is quick and easy!);

To Hand-in during check-in.

  • Technology: Please note that all electronics (For example;  iPods, iPads, cell phones, smart phones, music devices, Ebooks, Ewatches, etc…) will be collected and kept in your child’s classroom during check-in. (please label student names on all items, including cords and charging blocks, etc…)
  • Medication: All medication (prescription and over-the-counter) should be labelled with student name/grade in a zip-lock bag with the applicable forms already completed.
  • School Supply Bin:  Please bring your school supply bin to check-in as this will be dropped off in the classroom.  You can keep your back-pack with you
  • Care packages can also be dropped off at this time (optional)

You will also confirm/review your online secondary form details (for any changes/errors that could have occurred since you completed them).

Step 2 – Moving into your cabin

  • We ask that parents/guardians limit your time at/in your student’s cabin residence.  Help them bring things in, set up their bed and thingsand then allow room for others to settle in as well.  There are NO keys for the student residences, and we encourage you to leave all your valuables at home.
  • Parents are asked to depart the CEC site (from the cabin road) as soon as you have helped drop off your child’s belongings at the cabin and they are settled in to minimize car congestion at the cabins.  – Road travel is all one-way direction during check-in.
  • If you have questions after checking your student into the cabins, please walk back up to the main buildings, DO NOT drive back up.
  • The CEC store/tuckshop will NOT be open during registration.

 Step 3 – Class begins

  • Students will head to their designated classroom space after they have settled into their cabins.  Please walk back up to the classrooms from the cabins (do not drive back up to the main buildings).  We will have other families checking in and there is no two-way traffic during the check-in process.  “Drive into the main building for check-in and then drive out the cabin road once settled in.”
  • Lunch is NOT provided for all students on arrival day, please ensure they have eaten, as the first meal will be dinner on Sunday.

 SOME REMINDERS:

  • The CEC will ONLY be using STORE TABS for students visiting the CEC store/tuck-shop.  If you have given your child permission, a store tab will be created for them and your credit card number on file will be charged at the end of the session. It is up to the parents and students to determine a spending limit. The CEC will not be monitoring spending habits.
  • Do not mail care packages, as they may not be received in time.  You may leave a care package with us during check-in that we will hand out half-way through the session.
  • Please remember that because your child will not have access to their phones, they will still need to be aware of the time, so don’t forget to pack a watch (no wifi or cellular connection please)!!  A cheap dollar store watch works great! .  Don’t forget to bring a sun hat…essential for sun protection!

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email and/or ask questions at the upcoming Teams meetings.

Cheers,
The CEC Staff Admin team (Laura, Coral and Bill) and CEC Teachers/Staff!
